Summer Camps
The Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta offers you the chance to explore your passion for computing and have fun doing it! Our one-week summer camps have students of all ages excited to explore computers in new and inventive ways.
Small camp sizes allow campers to delve into their subject of choice while having personalized attention from their camp instructors.
With our diverse range of camps, there is something for everyone! No programming experience required!

Cyber Climber (Ages 6-12) *NEW!*
The Faculty of Physical Education and the Department of Computing Science have come together to offer campers the opportunity to exercise their minds and bodies!
Climbing and Fitness
Develop greater awareness of movement, strength, balance and coordination through indoor wall climbing and active games.
Computer Science and Technology
Grapple with technological challenges while learning computing fundamentals through logic puzzles, problem solving activities, blogging and programming basics.

Jump, Jog and Blog (Ages 7-12)
The Faculty of Physical Education and the Department of Computing Science have come together to offer campers the opportunity to exercise their minds and bodies!
Swimming and Fitness
Develop greater awareness of movement, strength, balance and coordination through swimming and active games.
Computer Science and Technology
Flex your mental muscles with logic puzzles and problem solving activities, and express your creative side with computer-designed stories, games and blogs.

Computing Science Intro (Ages 10-14)
Interested in animation? Or creating graphics, games and movies? You can do it all with the wide variety of activities in this camp!
Learn how to make animated movies and design interactive games on the computer that you can share with others. Discover the world of web design and see robots in action. Make some new friends and get a taste of the diverse world of computing!

Designing with Computers (Girls ages 10-15)
A girls-only camp! Explore technology using computers to design, create and animate. Learn how to design animated movies and create interactive stories and games. Have fun solving puzzles and experience the diverse world of computing!

Riveting Robotics (Ages 11-15)
Program a robot! Over the week, campers will learn how to control their robot’s sense of touch, vision, movement and hearing. Teams will work together to accomplish challenges that will test their use of logic and creativity.

Gaming
Intro to Gaming (Ages 12-14)
Design and build your own game! Using programming tools such as Scratch and Kodu, you will do everything from creating artwork, to designing characters and programming their behaviour, building a game you can play at home!

Game Design (Ages 15-17)
Interested in creating interactive computer games? Design and build dynamic stories using ScriptEase and the Aurora toolkit. These student-friendly tools allow campers with limited programming experience to develop games that can be played as adventures using the Neverwinter Nights gaming platform.
No programming experience necessary.

ISSET Space Academy
The Faculty of Science is working together with the Institute for Space Science, Exploration and Technology (ISSET) to offer campers the opportunity to explore space with their scientists!

Grades 3-4
For the first time ever, Space Academy will welcome grades 3 and 4 students into our Space Academy program, where they will be introduced to the exciting field of space science. Learn more about space exploration and astronomy! A great way to launch - junior space scientists can keep going in the advanced camps next summer.

Space Academy trainees will explore space science concepts through activities in astronomy and telescopes, hands-on rocketry, meteorites and impacts, galaxy formation, space weather, astronaut safety, spacecraft flight, robotics, and space program teamwork coordination.

Grades 7-9
Get up close with meteorites from the University's collection, build interactive robots, simulate working at mission control, and design and launch your own model rockets. Grades 7-9 students receive an engaging and authentic high-tech experience in space science through opportunities in hands-on exploration, discovery, and critical thinking.
